THURSDAY 10 November 2011

Happy Birthday Marines!

Rest/IHOP Day!

Cross Fit Red Diamond would like to invite all of the present, past, and future Cross Fitters to IHOP on 1719 Manhattan Blvd, Harvey,  LA from 0615 to 0700.

Cross Fit Red Diamond strongly recommends taking Thursday 10 November off. As we're wrapping up our week of HERO WODS, we should all be aware of the signs of Overtraining. Make sure you use this day of rest in a positive way and stay away from physical activities.

Signs of Overtraining
There are a number of signs that can indicate that you have overtrained. The
signs and symptoms include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Feeling tired all the time - Workouts become a chore and you feel tired even
outside of training.
· Performance stagnates – You are stuck at the same resistance or speed, or
may even experience a decrease in performance.
· Sleep patterns are disrupted.
· Resting heart rate is increased.
· Muscles may twitch or spasm.
· Change in mood - You may become irritable, angry, or depressed.
· Injury - You may become more prone to injuries due to fatigue or less
mental preparedness.

Also here is our nutritional tip of the week!

REAL FUEL VICE FAKE FAT. Eating naturally occurring fats is essential for athletes. Each cell in our bodies is protected by a layer of fat, so eating fat keeps cells cushioned and strong. It also keeps our hormone levels even. Research has shown that men & women who eat diets containing less than 20% fat have lower resting testosterone & estrogen levels, respectively.

Choose fats that occur in nature -- as in nuts, fish, oils & meats. Trans fat, or partially hydrogenated oil, is a fat created in a lab. Its purpose was to extend the shelf life of foods, but it's not extending our shelf lives. It's in fries, donuts, crackers, chips, cookies, biscuits, even graham crackers. Look for the words "partially hydrogenated oil" on the food ingredient list on labels. According to FDA labeling regulations, a product can claim to be 'trans fat free' or have 'zero trans fats' if it has less than .5 grams of trans fat per serving. But in a food with 8 servings per container, that means you'd be getting as much as 4 grams of trans fat in your belly.

Eat clean & thrive.

  1. Great week of XFit. Glad to know the XFit crew is active and energized in NOLA. Really good info posted above. Proper rest and diet are as important as proper training.
